1 The 3rd business meeting of APCAB/ASFU commenced at 2.00 pm
Prof Peter H C Lim welcomed members and the minutes of the previous meeting was read and passed.
2.1
Council Issues
2.1.1 Affiliate Membership (item 3.1 of the previous minutes)
Affiliate membership criteria was decided as follows:
Doctors and Nurses from O&G, Urology, Urogynaecology, Geriatric Medicine, Rehab Medicine, who have interest in the development of incontinence management and prepared to contribute to his/her country would qualify for membership. The member has to pay US$50 for entrance fee and US$10 for subsequent renewals. Payment should be made to the “Society for Continence (Singapore)” .
ACTION: Ms Rani Vadiveloo to
look after membership administration.
2.1.2 If the work of the affiliate member is found remarkable or the C.V of the member
is convincing, the Council will propose him/her for a full membership and will be co-opted thereafter. His/her renewal of subscription of US$ 10 per year remain unchange.
2.1.3
Maintenance of Council Membership status was finalised as follows:
The Board agreed to adopt the following terms and conditions unanimously:

· Council membership is by invitation or by election.
· Council members are subject to 2 yearly review on performance
· Council members have to provide calender of events to APCAB secretariat spelling out activities they have planned through their National Continence Society/Foundation/Association or in collaboration with their relevant Medical Associations.
· APCAB secretariat will circulate a survey form to all council members prior to the up-coming APCAB meeting as a review of the calender of events submitted during the previous meeting.
· Every member of the country must report on what he/she has done during the year for the development of the specialty. APCAB encourage members to work as a team with the President/Chairman of their national Society/Foundation/Assn.
· Non active member(s) will be replaced.
Dr Rudy Yuwana expressed that it would be better
if the next APCAB/ASFU meeting could be held in Bali as a pre-congress of FAUA
which will attract more participants from the region. Initial decision of
packing it with IUGA meeting from the 5-8 December 2001, might not be feasible
as the meeting has been shifted from September to December 2001. Proposed main
theme: “Asian Issues on Incontinence and Female Urology”
The Committee agreed to hold the next APCAB/ASFU
meeting in Bali from 26-28 August 2001 in Bali as a pre-congress of FAUA.

3.1
Guidelines for future APCAB/ASFU
Scientific Meetings
· It was agreed that future APCAB/ASFU meetings must be organised jointly with relevant professional societies and associations such as, O&G Society, Urological, Geriatric & National Continence Assns of the respective hosting country for international recognition and credibility.
· The organiser MUST provide CME accreditation for the meeting, so that the medical professionals would benefit from attending the meeting and also attract more participants.
· APCAB & ASFU meetings will be organised with alternate premier status.
Chairman congratulated Hong Kong Continence Society for organising a good meeting.
Dr David Zambrano informed that the results wouldl not be released until the data is cleared. He thanked all participants for their hard work to complete this successful project. Prof Peter Lim thanked Pharmacia Inc for their support.
Dr Marie C M Lapitan presented an update on the publication status of reports generated from the Prevalence Study on Incontinence and Overactive Bladder Questionnaire Survey.
Two reports have been written.
· “The Demography and Correlates of Urinary Incontinence among Females Asia” was sent to “Journal of Neurourology and Urodynamics” and has undergone 2nd revision.
·
“The
Epidemiology of Overactive Bladder among Females in Asia” has been
submitted to “International Urogynecology Journal and Pelvic Floor
Dysfunction” and has undergone1st revision.
All APCAB members who have contributed towards this sutdy will be given a

Chairman thanked all members for their contribution. Dr Lapitan expressed her regret for about not being able to work on the followings herself:
1) Prevalence of urinary incontinence in males
2) Prevalence of OAB in males
3) Correlation of symptom severity and bother score
The members voiced out their
desire to pursue these reports and Chairman advised that Dr P Moorthy his new
research fellow would take on the task of completing these projects. ACTION:

6.1
Fellowship Training programme
in incontinence and female urology
It was reinforced that training grant for fellowship training programme in incontinence and female urology will be one (1) round air-ticket.
Prof Peter H C Lim circulated a
Proposal for a Global “Continence Management Training” Network of the
“International Continence Society”. He
suggested that APCAB could joint as a partner in this network.
He requested members who wish to be part of the training programme to
complete the circulated form and return to him.
Feedback would be announced at the next meeting.

7.1
Continence
Foundations/Societies Activities Report
Dr David Bolong reported that Philippines Continence Foundation conducted a 2-day course on incontinence for doctors and nurses. Some 200 medical professionals attended this course. The Foundation has planned few more seminars for medical professionals and public awareness programme for general public.
7.2
Indian Continence Foundation
Dr Vasan reported that a website has been launched, a 2-day course on incontinence management has been organised for doctors and nurses some 80 doctors and nurses attended this course and the 2nd course has been planned for this year November. A counselling centre also has been planned.
7.3
Pakistan
Prof Masood informed the committee that two scientific meetings were organised under the auspice of their Urological Assn for post-graduates.
7.4
Indonesia Continence Foundation
Dr Rudi Yuwana reported that a National Symposium on Incontinence was organsied at the Urogynaecological Congress at Bali on 4 July 2000. The in-auguration of the Indonesian Continence Society for held in August 2000 and inconjunction a symposium on Diagonosis and Treatment of Incontinence was organsied. A workshop on urogynaecology was conducted for doctors and nurses. At the moment they are preparing for the next APCAB/ASFU meeting to be held in year 2001.
7.5
Taiwan Continence Society
7.5.1 Dr Alex Wang reported that under the auspice of the Female Pelvic Floor Assn a workshop has been scheduled for November 2000.
7.5.2 Dr Alex Lin reported that a community education programme on pelvic floor workshop was coordially organised by Taiwan Urology Association and Taiwan Continence Association in July 2000.
7.6
Korea Continence Society
Prof Heon Young Kwon reported the Society and the National Institute of Health jointly organised a programme for nurses. A website has been launched. Korean Society has been also awarded the hosting of the International Continence Society’s annual meeting in year 2001.
7.7
Malaysia
Dr Sahabudin reported that 3 public forums were conducted in 3 languages. From the 5-8 August 2000, “Urinary Incontinence Awareness Week” was organised and during the event 465 members of the public took part in a screening programme on urodynamics and patient evaluation. A talk on “Current Concept on Diagnosis and Management of Overactive Bladder” was organsied for Malaysian General Practitioners. Several TV/Radio talks were organised. A help-line service also has been established. Educational flyers on incontinence management has been printed and circulated.

Hong Kong Continence Society
Dr Kwok Tin Fook thanked all members for APCAB for their contribution towards the congress.
7.9
Thailand Continence Society
Dr Damrongpan reported that the Thailand Continence Society in November 1999 organised public awareness programme on prostate disease for general public for the whole month. Some 7,200 people were informed.
7.10
China
Dr Yang Yong reported that the Chinese Society of Urology has formed a “continence-work group” and this group has organsied 2 meetings on Urodynamics and urinary incontinence. A nation-wide 5-year programme has been scheduled in the Nan Jing province.

8.1
Society for Continence (Singapore)
Research Award
Chairman announced to the members that the Society for Continence (Singapore) has launched a research award programme for APCAB country members. This exercise is to stimulate progress in the field of female urology and incontinence and also to encourage medical professionals to engage more in research oriented projects in this field. Necessary forms will be send to all members and they are requested to encourage their peers and departmental medical staff to participate. First prize will be S$3,000 and second prize will be S$2,000. Dr P Moorthy would coordiate this project.

8.2
Vesicovaginal fistula (ASFU/APCAB
Project)
Dr Lapitan presented the second research project for APCAB/ASFU on the Epidemiology of Vesicovaginal fistula in Asia. The study will be done in two phases. The first phase is a general survey or a retrospective study of the caseload and overview of Care Management in the different member countries. This will be done through a retrospective review, whether 1,2 or 5 – year, of VVF cases seen in centres where the members are currently working with. A questionnaire will be filled up for each centre.
The 2nd phase of the study is a prospective case identification and reporting, from 1 Jan to 31 December 2001 in all member countries. A case report form for each case containing demographic and clinical (both diagnostic and management details) data was presented.
Dr Lapitan requested recommendations, suggestions and revisions from the body. The final project protocol will be presented to the members before Decmber 2001 for approval.
Dr Lapitan also requested APCAB members to inform
her of any published clinical trial on the management of vesicovaginal fistula.
This is in line with the Cochrane review committee. ACTION:

8.3
Renewal of membership
A renewal notice will be send to all affiliated members to renew their membership.
8.4
Installation of additional council
members
The following affiliated members were co-opted as they were strongly recommended by the council members of the respective countries for their outstanding performance:
1) Dr Marie Carmella M Lapitan : Urologist from Philippines
Dr Lapitan served APCAB as a research co-ordinator for 2 years and was in-charged of the APCAB Prevalence Study and its presentation in Scientific Meetings and Journals.
2) Dr Cecilia Cheon : Gynaecologist from Hong Kong
Dr Cheon has been APCAB’s affiliated member since its formation and has played very important role in the Hong Kong Continence Society activities and also served in the organising committee of the ASFU/APCAB Scientific Meeting year 2000
3) Dr Wachira Kochakarn : Urologist from Thailand
The Board accepted Dr Damrongpan’s last year’s proposal of introducing one more candidate to represent Thailand. Currently, Thailand has only one member representation and that is Dr Damrongpan himself. The proposal was seconded by by Prof Khalida Waheed (See item 3.2.1 from the previous minutes)
4) Dr Chia-Su Lo: Gynaecologist from Taiwan
The Board has accepted Dr Alex Cheng Wang’s nomination of Dr Chia-Su Lo. Prof Masood A Sheikh seconded the proposal.
The Board welcomed the four newly appointed members.
