Asia Continence Nursing Congress 2021 Summary
We have successfully completed the Inaugural Asia Continence Nursing Congress from 22/10/2021 to 24/10/21. The congress was conducted as a virtual and online congress. The theme of the congress was ‘Driving Excellence in Continence Management’. Our goal for the congress was to share and learn about continence management across Asia. With better education about continence management, we can improve continence care for our patients in each country.
The congress attracted a total of 1124 participants; out of which 700 were Singapore-based nurses and 424 participants were from various Asian countries. We also arranged for the congress to be telecast “live” to Jiangmen Central Hospital, who were holding their annual medical/nursing conference at the same time. We had invited 23 local speakers and 9 foreign speakers to share their expertise with us. At the “round-table” panel discussion session, we had speakers from Hong Kong, China, Macau, Philippines and Malaysia to share with us the challenges they faced and their efforts in promoting continence. It showed that everyone was trying their best to promote continence care in their country.
On behalf of the Society, we would like to express our gratitude to Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Manpower, for taking time from his busy schedule to speak at the congress as our Guest of Honour. His invaluable presence and speech helped reinforce the mission of society and the purpose of the congress.
Special thanks go out to Ms. Paulin Koh (Chief Nursing Officer, Ministry of Health), Adjunct Associate Professor Yong Keng Kwang (Group Chief Nurse, National Healthcare Group), Dr Hoi Shu Yin (Director CANS and Chief Nurse, Tan Tock Seng Hospital), Associate Prof Edward Poon (Director of Nursing and Academic Director, St. Luke’s Eldercare Learning Hub & Learning Institute), Professor Keryln Carville (Professor of Primary Health Care and Community Nursing, Curtin University, Australia), Mrs Joy Sear (Curtin University School of Nursing) and Mr. To Hoi Chu (President, Hong Kong College of Surgical Nursing) for making this event a memorable one.
A big “Thank You” must go out to all the sponsors, who made it possible for us to organize the congress. The continued support of our sponsors in education of continence care is most heartening and deeply valued. Last but not least, a big thanks to our working committee members, who have contributed their precious time in making the congress a success.
