In conjunction with the World Continence Week in June 2009, several healthcare organisations held various activities to help create awareness among patients as well as members of public.

Following are snippets of the activities organised by the Paya Lebar Kovan Community Club, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Singapore General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The highlight of the World Continence Week was a public forum on Incontinence held at the Suntec Convention Centre.

Paya Lebar Kovan CC – 14 June 2009

Two hundred people attended the public forum on 14 June 2009. The event was graced by Member of Parliament, Ms Cynthia Phua, who also delivered the opening speech. Dr Wong, a gynecologist from KK Women and Children’s Hospital delivered a talk in Mandarin while Dr Pearllyn Quek, urologist from Mt Alvernia Hospital spoke in English.

The highlight of the event was the “Diaper Fashion Catwalk”. Ten female contestants took part in this Fashion Show and top three winners were given cash vouchers. The event was sponsored by SCA Hygiene.

KK Women & Children’s Hospital – 22-27 June 2009

KK Women & Children’s Hospital held an exhibition at the main foyer of the Women’s Tower. Educational posters on incontinence were put up and a blood pressure screening and diabetes stick screening were offered throughout the entire week. The highlight of the exhibition was the Mascot and the DJ who mingled with the crowd. Some 170 people visited the exhibition area.

Singapore General Hospital – 22-27 June 2009

Singapore General Hospital held its exhibition at the Urology Centre throughout the week. Some 200 people visited the stands.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital – 24 June 2009

Despite the one-day exhibition held on 24 June 2009, Tan Tock Seng saw encouraging turnout of 240 visitors.

SunTec City Convention Hall – 27 June 2009

A Public Forum on incontinence was held at Suntec City Convention Centre on 27 June 2009. The forum was held in English and Mandarin. The English session was attended by 170 people and the Mandarin session was attended by 180 people. Drs Christopher Chong, Tricia Koh, Arthur Tseng, Eileen Tan and Physiotherapists Li Ming Juan and June Chew talked on Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Management.

All the participating Hospitals and product companies put up exhibition stalls for public viewing. Educational materials were also made available for the crowd. The event was supported by @Poise – Kimberly Clark
